Route 1

Route 1 (formerly Glasgow Works)

SE Glasgow is currently developing a new integrated Adult Training programme designed to meet the needs of a growing economy. The new programme will offer a menu of support, utilising Training for Work and building on best practice from other models such as Glasgow Works. The new model will aim to improve and sustain job outcomes within Training for Work. It will focus on raising low employment rates in the city by placing emphasis on the non-employed who are closer to the labour market including those who are currently economically inactive.

The framework will move toward employer driven interventions and develop a sectoral focus in relation to skills areas. This will be delivered through a series of routes into employment and employability. These routes will create a pipeline of provision, targeting identified key areas for SE Glasgow from pre-employment support to post employability skills development in focused areas.

Route 1 – aimed at those who need the added support of an intermediate labour market project. Delivered, via a waged option, with vocational and skills related training, personal development, core skills and job search.

Route 1 replaced Glasgow Works from 1 January 2005 and is a waged programme supported via Training for Work and the contracting organisation’s own European Social Fund application. Each organisation has responsibility for its’ own recruitment procedures and the length of contract given to the individual will vary. There will also be some differences in relation to eligibility although the individual needs to be Training for Work eligible as a minimum (with standard Training for Work entry criteria as appropriate).

There are currently 8 Route 1 providers covering various occupational areas including IT, customer service, recycling and financial services. Community Enterprise in Strathclyde also manage “Childcare Works” – childcare projects which are also part-funded by SE Glasgow.
